The metal production at Kirov Plant traces its history from 1801 and is one of the oldest in Russia. At the beginning of the 19th century cannonballs, blanks for artillery shells, cast iron fence, monuments and domestic purpose products were cast at the plant. In 1844, for the first time in Russia, the production of rails for railways was developed at our plant, in 1874 one of the first Russian open-hearth furnaces was launched and construction of the steel-rolling workshop began. In 1904 the first Russian factory metallographic laboratory was established here.
In 1969 one of the biggest European press and forging shops was commissioned.
During the period of 1967-1975, a full reconstruction of the drop-hammer, open hearth furnace and rolling shops was carried out.
In 2003 a secondary metallurgy plant manufactured by FUCHS for steel treatment was commissioned.
In September 1992, after privatization of the Kirov Plant association, the Steel-rolling plant was established on the basis of drop-hammer, open hearth furnace and rolling shops as an economically independent enterprise comprising Kirov Plant JSC. In October 1995, the Steel-rolling plant was converted into Petrostal Metal Plant, a subsidiary company of ОАО Kirovskiy Zavod (Kirov Plant OJSC).
